Florida Lottery winners in Ocala: $500,000 Cash Blowout |
Lottery scratch-off prizes and the $500,000 Cash Blowout |

Florida Lottery winners are back in the Ocala spotlight after a ticket bought at a neighborhood gas station delivered a $500,000 scratch-off prize.
Randall Alan Klapp, an Ocala resident, won the top prize in the $500,000 Cash Blowout game with a ticket purchased at Lake Weir Marathon.
The store sits at 3820 SE Lake Weir Avenue, a familiar stop for drivers in southeast Ocala.
Klapp claimed the prize on July 20, but his name did not become public immediately.
Under a Florida law covering prizes of $250,000 or more, winners’ names remain shielded from public disclosure for 90 days after a claim.
With that privacy period over, Klapp has been identified as the ticket holder, offering a belated answer to who bought the winning scratch-off.
His listed ZIP code places him in the 34480 area of southeast Marion County, not far from where he bought the ticket.
For regular customers, the win turns an everyday fuel stop into the setting for a life-changing payday.
Klapp’s prize also joins a run of substantial lottery scratch-off prizes and other game winnings linked to Ocala and surrounding communities.
An Ocala woman recently claimed a $5 million top priz from a $5,000,000 Triple Match scratch-off ticket purchased on State Road 200.
Another Ocala resident was identified as the winner of a $2 million Powerball prize tied to a ticket bought along that same corridor.
Marion County has seen smaller, though still remarkable, Fantasy 5 wins connected to stops on SW College Road and near Interstate 75.
An Ocklawaha resident also claimed a $10 million Powerball Double Play prize, adding to the recent attention on local lottery wins.
Those payouts make for exciting conversation, but they do not change the long odds facing anyone buying a ticket today.
For Klapp, the story is more personal: a purchase at a gas station became a major financial windfall.
And for Ocala neighbors, the $500,000 Cash Blowout win is another reminder that big lottery news can start in an ordinary place. |

Happy for him. Lake Weir Avenue needed some good news.
Elaine BrooksIt sure did. I stop at that Marathon sometimes, so this one feels close to home.
I'd be checking that scratch-off three times before believing it.
Tony R.I'd probably ask the clerk to scan it too, just to be sure.
Someone in 34480 is having a much better year than me.
All these Ocala winners make it tempting, but odds are odds.
Walter C.Exactly. I might buy one for fun, but I wouldn't count on it paying a bill.
I hope Randall enjoys it and doesn't get bothered too much.
We hope so, too. Florida’s 90-day privacy period kept his name out of public view for a while after he claimed the prize.
Jess M.Same here. I hope those 90 days gave him time to make a plan in peace.
The $5 million ticket on State Road 200 was something else.
It certainly was, a $5 million top prize from a scratch-off bought on State Road 200. Thanks for reading.
Robert EllisThat one had everyone I know talking about the stores on 200.
Would be nice if half a million went as far as it used to.
Amanda V.True, but paying off a mortgage would still be a pretty big relief.
My coffee stop is right by that Marathon. Still buying coffee.
A good coffee stop is worth keeping! It must feel different knowing that ticket was bought nearby.
July 20 feels like ages ago. Glad he got some privacy.
Patricia ColeNinety days seems fair. I'd want a little time before the whole county knew.
Those Fantasy 5 wins near I-75 were plenty big to me.
I like hearing local wins, even if I never play.
We’re glad you enjoy the local stories. Even for nonplayers, it’s striking to see a familiar Ocala stop in the news.
Hope he had a good plan before his name came out.
That 90-day privacy period gave him some time before his name became public. We hope it helped him prepare.
The Ocklawaha $10 million win still sounds unreal to me.
A $500,000 ticket at a neighborhood Marathon. Imagine that cashier's face.
Nice to see somebody from southeast Marion County get a break.
It’s a big win for a southeast Marion County resident, and it happened close to home. Thanks for sharing your good wishes.
That is one expensive gas stop turned around pretty quick.
Steve HollisImagine going in for gas and coming out with that ticket.
Wonder if the store gets anything for selling the winner.
Congrats to him, but those scratch-off odds still keep me away.
First State Road 200, now Lake Weir Avenue. Ocala's been lucky.
Ocala has seen some remarkable wins lately, from State Road 200 to Lake Weir Avenue. As always, the odds are still long.
I buy gas on Lake Weir Avenue, never thought about tickets.
It’s the kind of familiar stop that makes this story feel especially local. Of course, a win like this remains rare.
Hope Randall gets some peace along with that prize money.
Why release his name at all after the 90 days?
That 90 day privacy rule seems fair to the winner.
I stop at that Lake Weir Marathon all the time. Wild.
Good for Randall. Half a million would sure help around here.
