Would golf entertainment venues be a hit in Ocala |
Considering Topgolf and PopStroke for Ocala |

Ocala has plenty of places to play golf, but a night out with friends can call for something different from a traditional round.
That is the appeal of golf entertainment venues, which mix putting or driving with food, games and an atmosphere built for groups.
Would that formula work in Marion County, or would it struggle to stand out beside the golf options Ocala already has?
For anyone picturing Topgolf Ocala, the draw would be a hitting bay where beginners and experienced players could take turns without walking a course.
Topgolf combines target-based driving games with digital scoring, seating, food and drinks, making the outing as much about company as technique.
That setup could suit a family gathering, a birthday party or an after-work group whose members have very different comfort levels with golf.
For a newcomer worried about slowing down a foursome, a casual game might feel far more welcoming than a tee time.
The idea of PopStroke Ocala offers a different kind of appeal: putting courses paired with outdoor dining and room to linger.
PopStroke’s miniature golf format asks less of first-time players while giving regular golfers a chance to compete over a shorter outing.
Parents could see an easy family activity, while couples and groups of friends might see a place that works beyond the game itself.
Neither concept would arrive in a town unfamiliar with golf, and that is part of what makes the question interesting.
Ocala already has established courses, including Ocala Golf Club, Candler Hills Golf Club and Stone Creek Golf Club.
Local mini-golf also gives residents a casual alternative when they want an inexpensive-feeling outing without committing to a full round.
So the case for a large new venue is not that Ocala lacks golf, but that it may have room for another way to enjoy it.
The distinction matters: a social golf attraction would compete for leisure time, not simply for players already booking weekend rounds.
Residents willing to drive can find entertainment-style golf in other Florida markets, including the Orlando area, but a local option would change the planning involved.
A spontaneous evening is easier to imagine when it does not begin with a lengthy trip out of Marion County.
Still, enthusiasm on paper does not answer the practical questions a developer would face before choosing an Ocala site.
A venue would need enough repeat visitors, an accessible location and a price point that makes families and groups want to return.
Traffic, noise and the character of nearby neighborhoods would matter, too, particularly for an attraction designed to draw evening crowds.
Those concerns deserve attention rather than dismissal, even from residents who would welcome more entertainment choices close to home.
There is also a real difference between wanting a Topgolf or PopStroke visit occasionally and supporting one often enough to keep it busy.
Some golfers may prefer Ocala’s familiar fairways, while others might welcome a place where the score is secondary to being together.
For younger players, a relaxed first experience with a club could even become a starting point for trying a local course later.
For longtime residents, the strongest argument may be simpler: another dependable place to take visitors without leaving town.
Whether that possibility becomes a smart addition or an oversized gamble depends on what Ocala residents would actually use.
Would you choose a Topgolf-style driving bay, a PopStroke putting course or the golf and mini-golf choices already here?
And if one of these venues came to Ocala, what would make it worth a return trip for you and your family? |

A casual putting course sounds fun! Just keep it affordable for families.
Luis MorenoAgreed. If a family of four can go without spending a fortune, we'd be back.
Affordability could make all the difference for families deciding whether to come back. Thanks for sharing your vote for putting!
Candler Hills is lovely, but I would still try a Topgolf night with friends.
Debbie K.I love Candler Hills too, but a hitting bay sounds easier for a group that doesn't all play golf.
I hope they consider parking too. Birthday parties could fill that lot fast.
Good point, parking would matter, especially for parties and busy evenings. Any proposed site would need to handle those crowds.
Would love a place to take guests in Ocala after dinner. Putting sounds perfect.
PopStroke gets my vote. A shorter outing works better for our little ones.
PopStroke’s shorter putting format could be a good fit for families with young children. Thanks for weighing in!
We have plenty of courses, but not many places where beginners can just play around.
I'd go once for the driving games. Returning would depend on the cost.
Cost would be a deciding factor for many first-time visitors considering a return trip. Thanks for sharing your perspective!
A local Topgolf would be handy for company parties. Nobody has to be good!
Outdoor dining at PopStroke sounds nice, especially when the weather cools down.
My teenager might actually try golf if it starts with those target games.
That could be a great introduction. Target games let newcomers have fun without the pressure of a full round.
Give me Stone Creek on a nice morning. Food and digital scores aren't for me.
I'd take visiting family to Topgolf before driving them all the way to Orlando.
Please keep any evening crowds away from quiet neighborhoods. The location matters.
PopStroke sounds more my speed. I can putt without losing ten balls!
Linda AlvarezHa, same. I'd rather count putts than go looking for my ball in the trees.
I like Topgolf, but would enough people here go every week?
Chris M.That's my question too. I'd go when friends visit, but probably not every week.
That’s the big question: occasional interest is different from enough repeat visits to sustain a venue. Thanks for raising it.
A hitting bay would make a great birthday outing for our mixed group of golfers.
Nina PatelThat would work for our group too. The people who don't golf could still take a turn.
Where would they put it? Evening traffic is already rough in some spots.
There’s no proposed location mentioned here. We agree that access and evening traffic would be important considerations for any site.
My kids would love the putting course! Dinner there would make it even easier.
Tanya BrooksDinner on site would help us too. Getting the kids back in the car for another stop is always the hard part.
Ocala Golf Club is still my pick. I like playing a real round.
I'd try PopStroke, but the price would decide if we went back.
A Topgolf bay sounds great for beginners like me. No foursome waiting behind us!
Jordan MillsSame here. I'd actually try a driver if nobody was waiting on me to hurry up.
We already enjoy the local mini golf. Hope a big place wouldn't crowd it out.
Love this idea! Driving to Orlando for one evening is too much.
I would pick PopStroke. Putting and dinner sounds like an easy family night.
Dave ThompsonI'd pick that one too, especially if the food is decent and the wait for a course isn't too long.
Topgolf in Ocala would be fun! I would go with friends after work.
An after-work outing with friends is exactly the kind of occasion a Topgolf-style venue could serve. Thanks for sharing how you’d use it!
